Study shows humans have been living in Saudi Arabia for 85,000 yearsPhoto: Ian CartwrightA three-centimeter finger bone is causing scientists to rethink what was known about the first migrations of modern humans.Researchers found from the analysis of the bone attributed to a Homo sapiens that there were humans already living in the region we now know as Saudi Arabia approximately 85,000 years ago.So far, it was believed that Homo sapiens only began to live continuously outside Africa 60,000 years ago.This finding reinforces the evidence that migration has spread beyond the African continent much earlier than previously thought.Previous research has reported similar findings in Israel, China, and Australia, some dating back some 180,000 years.The new research, signed by 30 scientists from different universities, was published in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution.The phalanx analyzed by the group of scientists was found in Al Wusta, a desert of the Arabian Peninsula.S...
