Implosion of old IBGE building alters Rio traffic scheme

According to Rio's City Hall, the opening hours of trains and subways will also change due to work at Mangueira

The former building of the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), located in the district of Mangueira, north of Rio de Janeiro, will be imploded on Sunday (13), to build 2,000 units of Minha Casa Minha Vida .For the overthrow of the building, the city set up a safety scheme with interdiction of roads and also change the opening hours of trains and subways.Thirty men, including Cet-Rio controllers and municipal guards, will participate in the operation with the purpose of monitoring the entire area impacted by the implosion and also ensuring fluidity in traffic.The city council also recommends that drivers avoid circulating in Mangueira, São Cristóvão and Benfica neighborhoods at the time of the interdiction.Visconde de Niterói Street, between 6am and 8am, will be totally closed, in both directions, in the stretchbetween the Mangueira Viaduct (Agenor de Oliveira Viaduct) and Ana Neri Street.Traffic will be diverted by men from Cet-Rio and GMreproductio...
